West Virtual colonialism : A
Purposeful Approach

Many years ago some people didn"t understand the meaning of a
pictorial statement on the walls in Iran including the photo of some video
tapes and cassettes back grounding by the American flag subtitled "
Cultural Invasion" as a caption. Indeed cultural invasion can be regarded
as the second type of colonialism after land colonialism. Remembering past,
nearly  fifteen years ago, having a video
player was regarded as a crime and people were banned to have it; but now the
case is significantly different. Each house has at least three devices for
playing media.

     Due to the effect
of globalization and transformation of the world to a kind of village,
communication has found worldwide aspect, meaning that communication through
various devices is easy for most of the people in the information age.
communication in today"s form has roots in modernism (Hall 1999).

     By the invention
of the internet and internet  service
provider (ISP), universal access to the data become strong. the virtual space
got identity and many internet service giant websites as Yahoo, MSN, Face book
and Tweeter act as empires and tried figuratively speaking express domination
of power on the users or better to say subordinates.

    Why the term of the
hegemony of Empire on subordinate is used here in an unreal dimension; because
when there is no physical boundary of time and place, there is no limited
connection and there is only personal boundaries( Hall, 1999; Foster, 1997;
Lyon, 1997).

     The mentioned
websites can be regarded as virtual existence, and their actions as virtual
colonialism because they virtually subordinate. the virtual colonizers are
given birth in west, mainly in the United States. their purpose is
westernization of the internet users. by doing this most of the users will be
dependent culturally to the west. whenever there is a new thing introduced by
west through the internet many users  all
over the world observe it and use it  and
finally accept it whether it was shaped by a cultural political discourse or
not.  in this way westerns can dominate
their cultural, political and economic hegemony (Ameli 2012).

     West by doing this
technique  and the launch of the
worldwide users websites, softly make users think independently and make the
user a member of American cultural society ( Amelli 2012).
